Who is Rogue Scholar?

Meet Andrea

I’m a social scientist and former practicing social worker, with 15 years of experience designing and conducting quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods research and evaluation studies.

Although my research career formally started 15 years ago, my passion for research began in childhood. I was the child who asked unusual questions and tried to figure out how things worked. When I realized that research methodology was the key to answering questions, I was all in!

In my academic career, I held faculty positions at three universities (Arizona State University, University of Texas at Arlington, and Johns Hopkins School of Nursing), which is where I made connections and honed my skills. I published a ton and wrote grants bringing in millions of dollars for studies that I designed and led.

Along the way, I experienced the politics of academia. I became disillusioned when I discovered that the quality of your research, accolades, and publication record were less important than your mentors and alma mater. I left it all behind to start Rogue Scholar. Now, my goal is to make expertise accessible to everyone, regardless of their connections or academic training.

My training includes interdisciplinary approaches to violence prevention and intervention with at-risk populations. I am a subject matter expert in sex trafficking/prostitution, intimate partner violence and homicide, youth and teen dating violence, and sexual violence. I’ve published more than 50 refereed articles, over 100 scientific publications, and led studies totaling over $10 millions in sponsored research.
