Check out our new article: Measurement Models In Social Work Research: A Data-Based Illustration Of Four Confirmatory Factor Models And Their Conceptual Application

Psychometrics is my favorite stats topic because confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) is what I studied for my dissertation. It’s how we create valid instruments to measure things you can’t observe like depression, empathy, etc. It’s also EXTREMELY difficult to do, and is one of those things I half regret doing because it is extremely easy to get wrong.

In any case, my latest stats article with co-authors Mike Killian (FSU), Adam Von Ende (BU), and Liz Segal (ASU) published in the British Journal of Social Work, is a very digestible overview of CFA. I’m especially proud of this article because it is data-based illustration of four CFA models to measure empathy, provides conceptual, empirical, and substantive applications PLUS we give you syntax for THREE stats programs! Gosh, we’re great. This is theory-building with statistics!

Get the article from BJSW or email me directly.
